The people of Mercato exist to support healthy and vibrant communities through food. Mercato is the nation’s fastest growing online grocery marketplace, built exclusively for independent, local grocery stores. We empower grocers with everything they need to sell online — an exclusive customer marketplace, a nationwide delivery network, marketing tools, analytics, insights, and specialized member benefit programs.

Founded in 2015, Mercato was inspired by experiences Founder and CEO Bobby Brannigan had working at his family’s grocery store in New York. Bobby realized first-hand that the 40,000+ independent grocery stores in the US lacked the technology and infrastructure to keep up with current consumer demands driven by eCommerce experiences.

Today, Mercato has thousands of merchants and millions of consumers on its platform, and recently closed $26 million in Series A funding. To keep up with this growth, we are looking for highly motivated members to join our team, as we strive to help local grocery stores compete — and win — against bigger chains.

About the Position

We are looking for a Lifecycle Marketing Specialist to provide ongoing support with email production to the Senior Manager, Customer Journey. You will be responsible for planning and executing the adhoc email campaigns, including overseeing copywriting and design production, building email campaigns in our ESP Iterable, creating audience segments and suppression lists, as well as quality assurance and deployment of the campaigns. This will be a production-oriented role that requires knowledge of HTML and CSS, and prior experience with ESPs like Iterable (preferred), Marketo, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, etc.

We are open to fully remote candidates for this role.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and execute email, push, and SMS strategies for promotional, lifecycle, transactional, and triggered campaigns. Maintain the monthly promotional campaign calendar, submit briefs and collaborate with the creative team to ensure understanding of objectives and deadlines
  • Establish a rigorous QA practice, ensuring that content, segmentation, attribution and schedules are accurate. Perform render testing across email clients to ensure that emails are rendering correctly
  • Plan and execute A/B and multivariate testing on subject lines, content, design, segmentation, send time and other variables to improve performance and optimize campaigns
  • Conduct weekly reporting on email, push, and SMS campaign performance. Analyze results, identify areas of improvement, and provide key learnings and recommendations
  • Proactively partner with vendors, account managers, product team, and operations team to drive overall program efficiency and success
  • Monitor deliverability and list hygiene in order to maintain a healthy subscriber list and minimize inbox placement and IP reputation issues
  • Ensure all digital campaigns comply with current email best practices, laws, and data privacy policies, keeping the leadership team consulted on these areas

  • 2-5 years in Email Marketing or a similar role, preferably at a consumer marketplace company
  • Experience working with at least one major ESP (Iterable - preferred; Marketo, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Klaviyo, etc), including setting up ad hoc campaigns, automated workflows, segments, and pulling reports
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS for email
  • Solid experience in developing marketing campaign calendars
  • Proficiency with segmentation, automation strategy, and marketing using digital channels (email, push, SMS)
  • Understand campaign analytics and ability to produce actionable insights. Familiarity with big data analytics platforms such as Looker, and Metabase
  • Exceptional at multitasking. Must be able to plan, coordinate, and execute multiple projects simultaneously
  • Desire to learn and thrive in a fast-paced startup
  • A love for food and interest in the grocery space
