The Retention Marketing Team is responsible for driving growth and optimizing customer lifetime value through our owned media. The team is responsible for the customer contact strategy, lifecycle, and end to end campaign execution for all retention channels –Email, Mobile, Site Targeted Content, Direct Mail, and POS.


The Manager will be responsible for the team responsible for executing all targeting for Email, Direct Mail, SMS, Push, and Site Targeted content communication - promotional, editorial, loyalty, and credit-related messaging. Perform other duties as assigned.


Essential Functions:

  • Manage the team that executes segmentation strategy for: email, SMS, app push, site targeted content, direct mail and targeted offers channels.
  • Monitor status of campaign operations as the primary day to day contact. Point of escalation for off hours business questions/decisions on campaigns. Must be available during off hours as needed.
  • Lead optimizing cadence and frequency and working with key partners to understand key events/drivers to sales to reflect priorities in segmentation.
  • Assess targeting and calendar scenarios for these channels leveraging CRM marketing tools, optimizing for customer engagement, sales performance, etc.
  • Support testing roadmap and implementing new predictive models and scores in digital targeting strategy in partnership with Targeting Strategy, Analytics and Data Science partners.
  • Support optimization of the CRM lifecycle contact strategy (cadence and frequency of touchpoints).
  • Demonstrate & exercise thought leadership to improve complex workflows and provide feasible solutions. Redefine current processes in order to gain workflow efficiencies, maximize bandwidth, identify automation opportunities and cost savings.
  • Business owner for all technical enhancements, new capabilities & new automations to the workflow & process.
  • Identify key tactics to increase customer engagement and interaction.
  • Assess customer response performance and provide insights across business categories/channels and recommendations to internal and external business partners.
  • Identify and propose A/B test ideas with goal of optimizing customer communication.
  • Lead optimization of key milestones and workflow stream to maximize bandwidth across team.
  • Manage direct reports:
  • Build out team succession planning to ensure business continuity.
  • Coach team to lead self and delegate projects.
  • Help develop growth and learning goals for the team.

Skills Summary:

  • Minimum of 5-7 year’s experience in online email/CRM marketing and consumer promotions.
  • Advanced knowledge of industry CRM communication tactics.
  • Knowledge of email, Internet and direct marketing methods.
  • Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines in a cross-functional, team-based environment.
  • Self-starter with strong communication, organization and prioritization skills. 
  • Strong ability to communicate with middle management and cross-functional teams to collaborate with key stakeholders and define business process issues, analyze operational efficiencies, implement creative solutions, and measure delivery of results.
  • Detail-oriented, holding themselves and team to high quality standards with heavy focus on quality-control.
  • Highly skilled in multi-tasking, meeting deadlines and handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Maintain and enforce documentation. 
  • Must have demonstrable computer skills and aptitude for technology, including proficiency with Microsoft Office software (World, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.) and database applications. Proven analytical abilities are a must.
  • BA/BS college degree is required; concentration in Marketing a plus.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage several projects simultaneously along with requirements from various stakeholders including senior management.
  • Strong project management and process development capabilities.
  • Self-starter with strong communication, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to escalate issues and pushback as needed.
  • Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines in a cross-functional, team-based environment.

Management Skills:

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Previous experience managing, motivating, and developing teams.
  • Ability to identify, resolve, and escalate issues, challenging the status quo when appropriate.

Analytical Skills:

  • Proven strategic thinking, analytical, data interpretation, financial, and problem-solving skills.
  • Heavy focus on quality assurance and high attention to detail are essential to success.

Physical Demands:

  • This position involves regular ambulating, sitting, hearing, and talking.
  • May involve close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. 
  • Involves use of hands and fingers for typing on keyboard and using a mouse

Decision Making:

  • Ability to problem solve when late changes or workflow issues arise.
  • Partner with team members when making recommendations to business stakeholders

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Management with direct reports is required.

Work Hours:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
  • Typical work hours 9am-5pm and overtime and after-hour support as needed.
