This position will work with the Assistant Director of Email Marketing in implementing the e-marketing strategy across External Relations at Harvard Business School. He/she/They must show sound judgement, flexibility and thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced, idea-driven, and creative environment.


Will be an essential member of the digital marketing team as the acting project manager for External Relations email. In this role, the Email Marketing Manager will serve as the liaison between the email team and its External Relations partners including but not limited to Alumni Marketing, Alumni Relations, Development Communications, and Development as we strategize on email campaigns for e-appeals, event invitations, e-newsletters, alumni-related content, etc.


He/she/they will be responsible for reporting and email-send analytics, and will work closely with Assistant Director of email marketing and marketing partners in planning and adapting marketing campaigns in real-time, deciding and adapting marketing tactics and timing, and using independent judgement as needed. The person will be responsible for list management and optimized audience segmentation as we increase the targeting of our email program; will manage the email calendar; will also work closely with fellow team member, the Email Marketing Specialist, to internally strategize, build, and test emails.


Basic Qualifications

Minimum five (5) years of overall experience including 3 years supporting and implementing web and email.


Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent command of HTML and CSS and the latest standards, specifically for email
  • Experience with list segmentation and intermediate-Advanced Excel Skills
  • Experience with Web Analytics: tools and terminology
  • Experience with debugging email rendering issues in many different email clients -- particularly the challenges inherent in coding an email for Outlook on desktop
  • Project management experience
  • Team player who enjoys collaboration across teams
  • Requires great interpersonal and communication skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Past experience with email marketing, lead nurturing, marketing automation, and/or web analytics • Knowledge of latest digital marketing trends • Experience with email automation tools (CVENT and Salesforce Marketing Cloud a plus!)
  • This role requires a working knowledge of the following technologies and terms: HTML, CSS, Adobe Photoshop, Excel, V-Lookup, Rich Text, CAN-SPAM, CASL, GDPR, Open Rates, Click Rates, CTOR/Effective Rates, soft bounce, hard bounce, deliverability, domain, ISP, URL, alt-tag, etc.

Additional Information

This role is offered as a hybrid (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA based campus 2 days per week. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.
