EMAIL MARKETING MANAGER, DEMAND GENERATION

Department: Marketing

Reports to: Vice President of Digital Marketing


SUMMARY:

The Email Manager is responsible for oversight and acceleration of the organization’s email channel and capabilities across the customer lifecycle. At the top of the funnel, s/he will partner with data vendors and peers to implement email demand generation programs to drive inbound calls that establish the email channel as a scalable source of leads and sales. In addition to driving new demand, the Email Manager will implement, oversee, and continually test email nurturing programs that move existing leads from consideration to sale. S/he will work with marketing to understand the nuances of leads by source, and partner with sales to understand lead disposition, in order to implement sophisticated contact strategies that engage consumers and effectively drives calls and purchase. Finally, the Email Manager is responsible for ensuring effective delivery of post-sale communications to drive customer satisfaction and retention.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Key accountable party for the email marketing channel – from lead to post-sale
  • As channel owner, this role is accountable for developing annual and monthly spend and lead volume forecasts, and partnering with sales to drive web and phone lead conversion
  • Work with marketing peers and data vendors to score and select records to email
  • Develop scalable top-, mid-, bottom-of-funnel programs that drive new origination sales growth through rigorous analysis and testing
  • Partner with the marketing team to develop high impact, direct response email marketing creative to drive account-level funnel effectiveness (open, clicks, calls, and sales)
  • Fully accountable for email performance metrics including deliverability, inbox rate, opens, and engagement; use those metrics to balance the need for emailing at scale with sender health
  • Design, QA, and manage complex customer journeys, including all corresponding marketing creative, customer segmentation, A/B testing and reporting
  • Build emails and define trigger logic to ensure contact strategies are executed as designed
  • Develop reporting for email performance by campaign, data type, and other segments
  • Partner with sales to define nurturing email strategies by lead source, as well as customer service and retention to develop post-sale communication to educate and engage customers
  • Establish email compliance guardrails to ensure the business is acting in accordance with the CAN-SPAM Act and other applicable regulation
  • Oversee sender profiles and domain health and proactively prevent issues with block lists, etc.
  • Work cross-functionally with brand marketing, IT, legal, and Customer Experience teams to produce communications that are on-brand, legally compliant, timely and effective
  • Engage sales to launch new campaigns, including defining inbound call routing and offers
  • Monitor and communicate email trends that could introduce pressure into the channel
  • Serve as a thought leader – keep tabs on direct response, lead generation trends and competitors; champion those ideas internally and with external parties to advance programs
  • Test new growth opportunities with an emphasis on profitability at scale
  • Other marketing projects and analysis as needed

 


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field; or equivalent experience
  • Experience in email marketing for the purposes of direct to consumer digital lead generation
  • Experience managing third-party software and tools, including agencies or contractors
  • Experience implementing email marketing programs and handling end-to-end execution
  • Ability to forecast and evaluate ROI from activities and show measurable business impact

 

Required Competencies:

  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and light technical aspects of email set up, domains, and delivery
  • Analytical mindset to continually evaluate performance KPIs and test to improve
  • Working knowledge of online marketing, including major digital marketing channels like paid search and paid social, SEO, and web-based submission forms
  • Self-directed and proactive to take ownership of establishing email demand generation
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment and champion new strategies amidst ambiguity
  • Excellent time management skills with agility to reprioritize tasks with short notice to accomplish high-priority work and meet business needs
  • Ability to work through difficult challenges and apply thoughtful consideration to solve problems and works to build business acumen where needed
  • Positive attitude, detail- and customer-oriented with a passion for continuous improvement and innate curiosity to take the initiative to learn new skills outside of core role/comfort zone

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Role may supervisor vendors and/or agencies and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of these units. S/he is expected to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include defining work, approving deliverables, and serving as the accountable party in the fiscal fitness of marketing investments.
