Who we need:

Basepaws is seeking an Email Marketing Manager to help build, execute and optimize our email and SMS campaigns to drive product acquisition and retention. This role will help provide leadership and strategy for prospects and customers via Email, SMS, and Web Push channels.  Our ideal candidate has at least 3 years of proven successful email marketing experience in D2C, e-commerce. You also know Klaviyo intuitively and have a knack for good design.

We will give our preferences to a candidate who can wear multiple hats and write/design all our emails and set them up in Klaviyo.

*This is a contractor role with a full-time opportunity as a Head of Retention & Email Marketing in 2021*

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

-Manage and execute email communications to include triggered series, marketing campaigns, and one-off emails;

-Develop new strategies and tactics for driving customer relationships, user acquisition, retention and lifetime value;

-Work on copy and design for all email communications (solely or with a help of designers/copywriters;

-Clearly communicate our brand voice through experiences that resonate with our target consumer(s) at moments that matter across the pet parent journey;

-Coordinate campaign deliverables with the Chief Marketing Officer and marketing team;

-Collect and analyze data to optimize email send and campaign performance to meet goals;

-Review performance and aggregate data with recommended next steps to inform ongoing strategy improvements;

-Brainstorm new and creative strategies focused on driving deeper customer engagement and product affinity;

-Create custom reports for email performance for use at the executive level;

-Develop tests for both mobile and desktop environments;

-Research, implement and optimize mobile messaging tools for SMS, push notifications, and in-app messaging;

-Listen to consumer voices to ensure an understanding and relevancy for content and messaging needs.


- 2-3+ years of experience with Klaviyo (any additional enterprise-level email platform is a plus)

-Demonstrated experience executing email campaigns

-Ability to create and analyze A/B and multivariate experiments via tools such as Optimizely

-Demonstrable experience managing marketing campaigns across desktop, tablet and mobile platforms

-Highly creative in identifying consumer behavior and devising campaigns that engage, inform, motivate, and convert

-Experience with website analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics, WebTrends)

-Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking

-Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in email and mobile marketing and measurement

-Excellent written and verbal communication skills

-Willingness to learn and constantly expand knowledge and skillset

-Highly creative with experience in identifying target audiences and devising email campaigns that engage, inform and motivate

-Ability to work independently

Skills Required:

Strong automation skills with using Klaviyo;

Direct-to-consumer experience a plus;

Experience writing and testing content across multiple digital media including emails, web, and mobile applications;

Perspective and authority as a true “strategist,” offering stellar copy and content as well as recommendations about how the content narrative should unfold across all customer touchpoints;
