The Ad Council is seeking an Email Marketing Manager to join our Marketing and Branding Team. The ideal candidate has both a creative and analytical side and has experience using data to lead customer acquisition. The Email Marketing Manager will be responsible for working with key departments to develop and define email marketing campaigns, including brand initiatives and events. This position will report into ­­­­the Vice President, Digital Marketing.

Core Roles & Responsibilities:

Email Marketing & Strategy

  • Work closely with the VP, Digital Marketing to develop an email marketing strategy and internal process
  • Schedule, code, QC and deploy campaign and Ad Council branded emails
  • Route email marketing copy and design layouts to appropriate internal teams for feedback and approval
  • Manage the email marketing calendar
  • Collaborate with the Content Studio to manage and oversee all aspects of the email development process
  • Write and/or work with copywriter to ensure messaging is on brand and within email specifications
  • Ensure emails follow industry policies and best practices
  • Monitor data quality to understand marketing performance of email campaigns
  • Work with Marketing Performance Analyst to report key metrics, insights and engagement rates to other departments
  • Work in partnership with the Marketing Performance Analyst to develop A/B (or multivariate) testing, segmentation strategies and better comprehend customer journeys
  • Work closely with CRM Administrator to improve and maintain the quality of data in the database and assist capturing leads utilizing marketing tools
  • Help build and/or improve segmentation strategies and account/contact scoring models to execute cross-channel marketing plans on all digital channels

Asset Management/Distribution

  • QC assets against industry specifications
  • Manage and produce the quarterly distribution calendar
  • Coordinate with distribution partner for asset delivery
  • Collaborate with Campaign Management teams on localized or ad hoc projects/distributions
  • Reconcile billing on a monthly basis
  • Produce estimates, timelines & purchase orders
  • Generate unique AD-IDs for TV and radio PSAs
  • Manage and input distribution data and source files into the organization’s Digital Asset Management system
  • Responsible for pushing/publishing of assets from the DAM system to the organization’s Content Management System


  • Proven work experience as an Email Marketing Manager or digital marketing specialist
  • 3-5 years of experience in the communications/advertising industry or related field
  • Intermediate knowledge experience with HTML and CSS
  • Prior experience with Acoustic Campaign (formerly Watson Campaign Automation), MailChimp, Adobe/Marketo Engage or another email service provider is required
  • Strong understanding of CAN-SPAM and email regulations across relevant regions (i.e. – GDPR, CASL)
  • Solid understanding of how systems interconnect to integrate data between platforms
  • Strong proficiency with marketing and digital technology landscape and trends across the stack
  • Must understand traditional marketing disciplines that include SEO, Customer segmentation, Social media, Email marketing, Lead generation & Database management
  • Experience with Digital Asset Management Systems and/or Content Management Systems
  • Familiarity with analytical and database tools
  • Excellent written communication and copywriting skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • An ability to work under tight deadlines
