The Role
This position is responsible for working within the marketing department and is responsible for managing dynamic email marketing campaigns targeted to both B2B and B2C audiences, and acts as an email marketing and automations specialist for the business. This position works closely with Sales, Servicing and other departments to execute on email initiatives. The Email Marketing and Automation Lead is expected to have a solid understanding of email marketing best practices and trends in their area of expertise. They work closely with the rest of the marketing team to ensure there is a strategic integration between all digital media. Responsible for creating, executing and managing consumer and business focused email marketing initiatives and campaigns including building journeys, automations, analytics and reporting activities. They manage and maintain email marketing schedules and calendars for the business. They also partner with IT partners and vendors to complete campaigns, journeys and automations.
Email Marketing
- Manage the execution of emails on a day to day basis
- Establish email marketing strategies using industry best practices and ensure timely execution of email marketing initiatives (B2C and B2B)
- Set cadence of delivery times, manage email deployment calendar and communication for all email campaigns
- Strategically align email marketing calendar with overall marketing calendar and other initiatives
- Analyze ad hoc emails, email campaigns and other marketing automation results, issues and opportunities. Adjust any and all aspects of email to improve results
- Work with the in-house creative team to co-ordinate production of email design, subject lines and copy
- Measure results and optimize campaigns through A/B testing in order to improve open rate, deliverability, click rate, opt-out rate, conversion rate, as well as specific business goals around individual campaigns
- Develop documentation and roadmaps for processes, A/B tests, and promotions that succeed through email
- Ensure brand consistency across all campaigns and messages
- Execute and deliver ad hoc and recurring reports, documented from multiple data sources to support email marketing and sales support, planning and operations, including insights and actionable recommendations on key business drivers of the organization
- Responsible for delivering all analytics and complete campaign reporting including lead generation data and activities
- Consult on day to day work, and execute on larger initiatives and new features/functionality
- Own end-to-end marketing automation implementation process to support audience segmentation, campaign logistics, build, post campaign results and analysis
- Create and maintain lists, data extensions, emails, landing pages, programs, forms, reports and surveys
- Familiarity with reading and writing AMPscript, an asset
- Work with data extensions from salesforce for email deployment
- Work closely with other departments to create emails (including dynamic content), automations and email journeys
- Create and maintain internal process documents
- List management and report creation in Salesforce and Marketing Cloud
- Subscribe and unsubscribe maintenance of email communications in Salesforce and Marketing Cloud
Relationship Management
- Act as liaison with various other groups throughout the enterprise for support, solutions and sharing of best practices
- Educate internal stakeholders on importance of communications, email subscription processes, CASL and best practices for email deployment
- Manage expectations of internal stakeholders and ensure timely execution of email marketing initiatives
- Work with Director, Marketing & Communications to evaluate and provide reports on effectiveness of all communications
What You Bring To The Team
Experience
- 2-3 years tactical, hands-on experience in email marketing and marketing automation, developing and implementing automated marketing campaigns
- Advanced, hands-on experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud (ExactTarget) including Data Extensions, Automation Studio and Journey Builder
- Strong knowledge of best practices for email deployment practices, data, analytics, segmentation, list management, dynamic content, testing methodologies, deliverability, etc.
- Understanding of email marketing operations, technology, platforms, databases and email architecture
- Advanced knowledge of Excel to provide accurate and meaningful analytics on all email marketing campaigns and ad hoc email deployments; hands-on familiarity with analytics tools (e.g. Google Analytics)
- Understands email regulations and privacy rules with a solid understanding of Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)
- Strong analytical mindset
- Effective planning and project management skills
- A proactive and ambitious marketer who enjoys developing new solutions to challenging data problems
- Experience in integrating with Salesforce Sales/Service Cloud to push/pull data
Skills/Knowledge
- Experience using Marketing Cloud

- Solid experience with survey tools: use, integration with emails, Salesforce, landing pages and complex results analysis
- Strong Internet, Excel, email, and electronic document management skills
- Understanding of Canada’s Anti-Spam regulation (CASL)

- Comfortable working with a team in a fast-paced environment, able to prioritize/meet deadlines within specific time constraints

- Ability to manage email technology vendor
- Experience running and optimizing large scale marketing campaigns
- Knowledge of AMP script & SQL an asset
- Excited about data and finding useful nuggets of information to make smart marketing decisions
Education
- Post-secondary education in Marketing, Computer Science or equivalent
