Job Summary
The Director, Email Implementation is accountable for Email Marketing implementation and support enterprise-wide.
This individual has strategic oversight of all customer-facing email campaigns across the enterprise and is responsible for the overall vision, direction and execution of the American Cancer Society’s email marketing strategy. This individual drives the organization to be a leader in the email space by building and managing an email program that speaks with a single voice, cultivates relationships with constituents, generates revenue, and better services the mission by improving external email practices across the organization.
He/she is accountable for developing technical requirements for marketing automation tools, including definition and implementation internally and externally with a keen understanding of the impact of those requirements on the day-to-day customer experience. This includes but is not limited to maintaining documentation, ensuring compliance and honoring preferences, and developing and implementing processes to be followed by others. The Director is accountable for partnering with ACS IT and/or external development partners to provide business requirements, acceptance criteria, testing support and technical defect or enhancement project management for al Email related initiatives.
This role is also responsible for the training of junior staff members as well as users across the enterprise and the ongoing analysis of production operation processes; this ensures the processes for all internal staff as well as external partners are adhered to and adjusted as needed for maximum efficiencies.
This individual also has key responsibility for $3MM+ dollar revenue goals for the national email fundraising program. The Director is responsible for leading the relationship, contract process, budgeting and invoicing of all email strategy, production and external vendors. He/She plays a key role in evaluating program performance, projecting costs, and budget reconciliation across the national programs.
- Lead enterprise-wide email marketing strategy and implementation for the Society.
- Partner with ACS Legal team to ensure compliance with all email privacy regulations.
- Ongoing development of technical requirements and business rule changes for marketing automation tools utilized across the enterprise
- Maintain deep understanding of ACS CRM/Salesforce data structure, data requirements, campaign management and customer data flows including donation processing.
- Stay current with continuing education and relevant certifications in marketing automation tools, serving as a resource to others as requirements change
- Define audiences and build segmentation and engagement plans for key segments.
- Develop integrated email campaign strategies and tactics in concert with digital platforms and offline channels to deliver a consistent customer experience.
- Ensure that the American Cancer Society’s email communications are strategically grounded and maintain the highest standards of innovation, creativity, and executional excellence, all while creating best in class customer experience.
- Maintain and monitor email KPIs and analytics to test, measure, and refine strategies and campaigns to ultimately meet business KPIs including but not limited to revenue, event sign up, and mission content delivery
- Share accountability with field staff in local email campaign initiatives.
- Identify and recommend email marketing industry best practices.
- Support all areas of the organization on email expectation/goal setting, testing plans, and reviewing strategy and segmentation to improve upon the overall impact of Email Marketing.
- Direct supervision of Email Marketing team members (4), providing daily oversight of the team’s activities
- Create, maintain and facilitate ongoing training of all users of email marketing tools across the enterprise.
- Address customer service escalations related to all email marketing activities.
Position Requirements
Formal Knowledge
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Marketing or related field.
- Salesforce Marketing Cloud Email Specialist certification required
Skills
- Knowledge of direct to consumer strategies, technologies, processes and systems.

- Understanding of state regulations/compliance issues that govern online giving processes.

- Track record of managing a multi-faceted marketing projects and budgets.

- Knowledge of database segmentation and data logic as it applies to email files and other reports needed in support of program
- Proven success integrating resources across complex functions and across multiple geographies.
- Project management experience in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of marketing techniques and strategies used with customers/constituents.
- Ability to work with varying levels of internal constituents and develop communication for various internal levels.
- Ability to manage multiple ad hoc and long-term projects simultaneously.
Specialized Training Or Knowledge
- 8 + years marketing experience with project management focus or relative experience.
- 5+ years of experience managing email program of a large non-profit or comparable organization
- 3+ years of experience at the American Cancer Society preferred, specifically with the following:
- Knowledge of ACS customer data configuration and impact it has on business analytics and efficiency.
- Understanding of ACS data structure, ACS data use, ACS systems, ACS business processes and ACS users.
- Deep experience in technical deployment planning and processes
- Working knowledge of Salesforce and Google Analytics.
- Experience with budget management and forecasting.
- Experience with multiple Email marketing platforms (full service and self-service).
- Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word and other project management and presentation applications.
The compensation range established for this position begins at a minimum of $85,000 annually.* Actual starting pay may differ based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education. *This rate is specific to Colorado.
