The Digital Marketing Specialist - Email facilitates the planning of all email marketing programs, acquisition and retention tactical plans and ensures this happens in the most efficient and targeted way, while staying on-strategy, on-time, on-budget and aligned with MEC’s standards.


 What you'll be doing:

  • Lead the planning of MEC’s email marketing programs including launches of seasonal campaigns along with always-on, automated programs to our member database
  • Developing, executing, analyzing and optimizing email programs to acquire new customers, improve customer retention and meet lifetime value and revenue goals
  • Mapping of the customer journey to ensure the email journey is aligned with the ecommerce and in-store experience, and paid and social media journeys, ensuring brand and messaging consistency in an omnichannel way
  • Planning, coordinating and executing campaigns that grow MEC’s email opt-in list and customer preferences in line with Canada’s Anti-Spam legislation and MEC’s privacy policy
  • Coordinating email deployments and managing deliverability issues
  • Creating, updating and distributing email program analytics reports
  • Continually build and improve automation within the email programs to ensure efficiency and our ability to operate at a larger scale
  • Stay on top of market trends and inform the business on where we need to be focusing our efforts in both technology and methodology
  • Collaborate between ecommerce, marketing specialists, creative, member insights
  • Enhancing data capture efforts with an eye towards improving data hygiene and a single view of the customer
  • Consistently applying sound methodology to test design, execution and an evolving member journey
  • Building of emails within platform tools


What you need to do it well:

  • Bachelor's degree. Specialization in Marketing, Communications or related field
  • 3-5 years’ experience in marketing, with a focus on digital technologies
  • Experience with Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Power BI or Tableau
  • Experience and understanding of marketing automation programs such as Adobe, Marketo or Salesforce Marketing Cloud (and platform tools such as Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Report Builder and Audience Builder)
  • Creative thinker, with a critical mind and strong business acumen
  • A commercial mindset, with an eye towards conversion, engagement and always looking for the moments of truth that matter most in our members’ journeys
  • An understanding of data management and customer flows
  • Be an exceptional team player and able to work cross functionally within agile teams and with other stakeholders within Marketing and other departments at MEC
  • You can handle many tasks at the same time and meet deadlines, while keeping cool
  • Be able to influence and enlist peers to help drive customer experience
  • Proficiency in Google Analytics
  • Familiar with dashboarding and analytics tools such as PowerBI or Tableau
  • Proficiency with Excel, especially around creating reports
  • Ability to interact with different sources of data and develop insights and recommendations from it
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience with HTML
  • Be comfortable with ambiguity and be able to react in an action focused manner
  • Stay ahead of marketing trends and an evolving retail industry, separating the noise from the opportunity
  • Excellent problem-solving skills – you can handle unexpected challenges and know how to mitigate risk
  • Excellent communication skills – be able to distill complex topics to their key essence for non-expert audiences
