Description of Role

Wild Alaskan Company is seeking a creative, detail-oriented, data-obsessed, and highly motivated Associate Director of Email and SMS Marketing to join our team. The ideal candidate possesses the ability to weave seamlessly between roles–from the driver’s seat leading strategy to an executor supporting broader goals. You should be tactical, strategic, and empathetic, and energized by the idea of joining a fast-moving, fast-growing startup, and excited about jumping in and rolling up your sleeves.


The Associate Director of Email & SMS Marketing will be a key driver in overseeing, developing, executing, and optimizing email & SMS strategies that align with Wild Alaskan Company’s overarching Lifecycle Marketing and business goals. They will lead the cross-functional collaboration process to build, manage, and execute compelling email and SMS campaigns to drive customer CAC, Recurring Revenue, and LTV throughout the member lifecycle for future, active and deactivated Members. This position will report to the CEO in an interim capacity until such time that the company hires a Head of Marketing.


Core Responsibilities

  • Manage triggered, and all lifecycle messaging across digital channels - email, SMS, and on-site posts including banners and takeovers.
  • Lead the cross-functional collaboration process with Marketing and Creative teams to brief, gather, develop, and build content for emails and SMS.
  • Work cross-functionally with the Product Development team to ensure member behaviors and attributes are connected to communication platforms. 
  • Develop and maintain the email and SMS marketing calendar while aligning with the greater marketing calendar, making updates and changes as needed, and communicating them internally.
  • Maintain a prioritized testing backlog while developing, executing, and reporting on email and SMS testing strategies.
  • Execute email campaigns by scheduling and sending emails as well as on-site marketing messaging.
  • Provide guidance and be a thought partner within the Marketing function, and foster the professional growth and development of any future direct reports.
  • Maintain email and SMS list health and monitor deliverability by cleaning lists and managing the technical side of email/text marketing (deliverability, SPAM, etc.).
  • Interface with email, and other vendors to troubleshoot and enhance email performance. 
  • Dive into the analytics to gain insights and understand customer behavior, using this knowledge to improve upon acquisition and retention strategies.
  • Manage the procurement of and maintain ongoing relationships with vendors.  
  • Collaborate on a strategy for email and SMS capture on the WAC site, and in our broader marketing programs to grow list size.
  • Analyze customer data and help develop segmentation strategies; recommend new attributes to enhance segmentation
  • Evolve channels: Expand email and SMS plan to ensure strategies leverage the latest platform capabilities.
  • Stay up to date with email trends and changing privacy policies and data access (i.e iOS 15).
  • Compile and present daily and weekly KPIs.
  • Other projects and duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • 7+ years of very relevant email & SMS marketing experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a responsible position. 
  • Proven track record of growing email and SMS channels for an e-commerce brand.
  • Proficiency with Looker or similar business intelligence tools. 
  • Strong foundation with CRM/customer marketing software, email marketing, and familiarity with analyzing customer LTV and conversion rates.
  • Email, acquisition, and retention marketing experience.
  • Experience analyzing data and elevating key insights to various internal audiences (cross-functional teams and company leadership), and experience applying data-driven thinking to creative conversations.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with experience working across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience warming up domains, managing deliverability, and troubleshooting data connections.
  • Confident knowledge of Google Analytics.
  • Experience working with internal and/or external creative teams and agencies.
  • Customer-centric — you have the ability to understand the WAC member base, from data analysis to market research to customer testing, and represent them in your work.
  • Creative, innovative, and eager to work in a team with a scrappy mindset.


Nice to Haves

  • Proficiency in HTML/CSS and SQL
  • Experience with Intercom and Klaviyo.
  • Experience with a high-growth subscription business.
  • Experience working on teams that rely on a project management tool (specifically Asana).
  • Experience in copywriting or design.

The starting salary range for this position is $100,000 - $140,000, commensurate with skills and experience. Wild Alaskan’s benefits package includes health, vision, and dental insurance, 401k, PTO, safe/sick time, vacation, parental leave and more, as well as a delicious box of free fish every month.
